A lot has been said about the all-new Porsche Taycan, one of the most spectacular vehicles to ever be built and released to the public. Offered in three versions and developing up to 750 horsepower, the Porsche Taycan is Porsche’s vision for an electrified future, and that future is bright.
The impressive performance of the Porsche Taycan on a dry road is well documented. Capable of reaching 100 km/h in under 3.0 seconds in the top-of-the-line Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the Porsche Taycan delivers blistering performance in a straight line with the handling to back it up. What is perhaps less well known about the Porsche Taycan is how it handles winter, a reality for all Canadians.
Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive Ensures Optimal Grip in Any Situation
The Porsche Taycan features an advanced all-wheel drive system that has been designed to withstand the harshest winter conditions. Tested in the rugged conditions of Lapland, Finland, the Porsche Taycan is designed to carry over its summer performance into the most difficult winter conditions without compromise on confidence, comfort, or safety.
The Taycan is setup with an electric motor on each axle, meaning that both axles receive power and the Taycan benefits from all-wheel drive capability. Its all-wheel drive system is designed to modulate the electric motors’ impressive power almost instantly, making sure that the right axle receives the right percentage of power to ensure the best grip and stability.
Depending on the situation, the Taycan’s power delivery can favour the rear axle or even the front and the distribution between each can vary almost instantaneously. In other words, the Taycan will modulate how the engine powers the wheels to ensure the highest level of grip when going around slippery corners or when going up a hill. When taking off from a dead stop, the engine can distribute power evenly to each axle to make sure the Taycan has the highest level of grip.
Winter testing has demonstrated that the Porsche Taycan doesn’t suffer too much from the cold when it comes to range, and it has already been demonstrated that the car’s posted range is very conservative. In other words, range anxiety related to winter driving isn’t a concern in the Porsche Taycan.
Last but not least, winter comfort features one expects in the Taycan include a heated steering wheel and heated seats, front and rear. The Porsche Taycan will keep you warm and keep you safe, regardless of road conditions.
