Porsche is taking its next step in electric vehicle development with the new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo unveiled earlier in March. The Cross Turismo, closely related to the Mission E Cross Turismo concept unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, is essentially a more practical, more off-road capable Taycan.
The launch of the Taycan last year pushed Porsche into a new segment, and with over 20,000 units sold in a pandemic year, the Taycan was more than an early success. Now, Porsche is expanding the lineup with the Cross Turismo which distinguishes itself from the Taycan with its “flyline” slopping real tailgate, distinctive wheel arch trims, and more rear headroom and cargo space. It will even offer an Off-Road Design package that increases ground clearance by 30 mm.
A spacious, off-road capable EV with up to 750 horsepower? Porsche is once again pushing the limits of what a vehicle can do.
Four Versions for the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo
The Cross Turismo will share the same powertrains and versions found in the Taycan family.
The entry-level Taycan 4 will feature up to 469 horsepower and hit 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo ups the horsepower to 562 hp and takes a second less to reach 100 km/h.
Next in line are the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo and Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo offering 670 horsepower and up to 750 horsepower respectively, meaning owners reach 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds (Turbo) and 2.9 seconds (Turbo S).
The Taycan Cross Turismo is the second full-electric Porsche vehicle, but it certainly won’t be the last. Porsche’s ambitious CO2-Neutral balance sheet plans announced at its annual meeting in March aims to not only reduce the carbon footprint of its vehicles and their production, but also to implement solutions that help owners reduce their own carbon footprints. No other automaker has made such ambitious goals part of their mission.
“We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility: by 2025, half of all the new vehicles we will deliver will have an electrified drive – either fully electric or plug-in hybrid. In 2020, one in three of all vehicles we delivered in Europe had an electric powertrain. The future belongs to electric mobility. With the Taycan Cross Turismo, we’re taking another major step in this direction,” said Oliver Blume Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo arrives this year at a starting price of $119,900, slightly less than a traditional Taycan sedan.
