Introduced back in June, the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS may very well be the most perfect representation of what the Porsche 911 is about, and what makes it so unique among performance cars in the automotive industry.
Every Porsche 911 is special, and the 992 generation of the famed rear-engine sports car from Porsche is the most accomplished yet. It blends remarkable performance, accelerations, and handling with daily usability and impressive technology; the result being a car that can be enjoyed in multiple settings.
No Porsche 911 model represents this better than the GTS. It takes the best parts (sometimes literally) from different Porsche 911 trims to deliver a 911 that is perfectly suited for track use, but never in a way that makes it uncomfortable.
GT3, Carrera S and 911 Turbo blend together in the new 2022 Porsche 911 GTS
The 2022 Porsche 911 GTS’ suspension and brakes are derived from the Porsche 911 Turbo to deliver superior braking power and vehicle dynamics compared to a Porsche 911 Carrera S.
The power comes from a 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six that delivers 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, enough to reach 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The new GTS delivers 23 extra horsepower and 15 extra pound-feet of torque over the outgoing GTS, and 30 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque more than the Carrera S. That means a quicker car, but the performance doesn’t reach the heights of a Turbo or Turbo S.
The exhaust note is louder as well, the GTS being offered standard with the Sport Exhaust system as well as the Sport Chrono Plus package and Porsche Active Suspension Management. All these elements are designed to make the GTS a sharper, more aggressive 911, without taking it to the level of a GT3. The GTS also sits lower than a Carrera S by about 10 mm.
On the road, the 2022 Porsche 911 GTS feels more connected and more agile than a Carrera S. It’s no GT3, of course, but it is more usable and comfortable than the GT3 which is designed first and foremost for track use. And although it’s the quickest Porsche 911 you can get for under $200,000, the power never feels overwhelming or over-the-top.
The GTS feels right at home on the highway and getting to and from work requires no sacrifice, just like a 992-generation 911 Carrera or Carrera S. Inversely, GTS owners will get more out of their car on the track.
If you are planning to use your 911 both on track and on road on a regular basis, there is no better option than the GTS.
