Porsche Unseen: Get a Glimpse of Unreleased Concept Cars.

For years, Porsche has kept a stash of hidden concepts under lock and key. Until now!

Published as a 328-page book, Porsche Unseen documents 15 of the carmaker’s boldest concepts that didn’t quite make it to production. The book goes in-depth on models and design studies from 2005 to 2019 that have never before seen the light of day. These futuristic thought experiments may or may not become actual products, but all show the scope of the Porsche imagination. Below are some of our favourite concepts and designs uncovered in Porsche Unseen.

Porsche 919 StreetWhat if the three-time Le Mans championship-winning car, the Porsche 919 Hybrid, was made street-legal? The Porsche 919 Street’s showstopping exterior design would definitely make it standout in the parking lot but what keeps this racer from hitting the streets is its mechanical complexity. In its competition trimline, it requires a team of mechanics and 45 minutes to start the car.

Porsche Vision SpyderClearly referencing the Porsche 550-1500 RS Spyder from 1954, the Porsche Vision Spyder pushes classic design into the future. The study was intended to further develop the design identity of Porsche and provide a pool of ideas for future details – like the ultra-modern roll bar.

Porsche Vision “Renndienst”The Porsche design team created a futuristic “space shuttle” interpretation of a family-friendly concept for up to six persons. The interior features a comfortable and modular travel cabin with special care given to creating a feeling of spaciousness. The all-electric drive technology is located in the underbody and the driver sits behind a central steering wheel.

Porsche 904 Living LegendHonouring the classics is a deep-rooted strategy for Porsche design, demonstrated beautifully by the Porsche 904 Living Legend. Weighing barely 900 kilograms, this study of an especially lightweight sports car is reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 904 from 1963 and could be powered by a high-revving motorbike engine.

Porsche Vision TurismoThis shiny silver prototype served as a blueprint for the development of the Porsche Taycan. First developed as an experimental study of a super sports car with four doors and a rear engine, it was soon determined to be better executed with a purely electric drive. The Porsche Vision Turismo is the perfect example of how an unrealized concept can inspire a different model into production.
