The whole atmosphere feels like a celebration and there are many food vendors and other unique workshops and even a children’s stage.
Lyndon Fishing Pond
The Lyndon Fishing Pond has been a summer staple in the area for more than 50 years. Its pond is well-stocked with beautiful rainbow trout that you can catch and take home for dinner that night. The fish have been raised at the on-site hatchery and Lyndon’s, which is conveniently located in nearby Petersburg, is a favourite spot for fishing enthusiasts, regardless of skill or age. There are often different events happening, too, from fishing derbies to weekly catch and release fly fishing evenings to group events and more.
Waterloo Warbirds
If you have an affinity for heritage cars, chances are you’ll appreciate iconic aircrafts, too. The Waterloo Warbirds preserve vintage military aircraft, offering in-flight experiences in addition to performing at different airshows. The fleet includes jets like the T-33 Mako Shark and the Vampire, and you can book thirty-minute experiences where a pilot takes you into the sky in one of these historic machines for the thrill of a lifetime.
Elmira Country Wagon Ride
The Elmira country wagon ride will force you to slow down whether you want to or not. The heritage ride takes guests on a two-hour guided tour from Elmira Station on a restored tractor that pulls an open-air wagon. You’ll navigate the rural roadways through farmland and learn about the rich Mennonite heritage. Passengers can book tickets from Waterloo Central Railway train station right into Elmira Station and once the wagon tour is over, you’ll board the Heritage Hopper Train southbound back home to Waterloo.
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory
Just a short drive from Kitchener-Waterloo, the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is a whimsical excursion for all ages. There are thousands of free-flying butterflies from around the world inside the tropical conservatory and the lush vegetation and waterfalls paired with the brightly coloured butterflies creates a magical atmosphere.
