Porsche has taken a significant step with the 2025 911 Carrera GTS hybrid, blending its classic design with modern hybrid technology. It’s the first of its kind and exemplifies Porsche’s approach to sustainability, combining the performance of a traditional engine with the efficiency of an electric motor.
“We developed and tested various ideas and approaches to decide on a hybrid system that optimally suits the 911,” says Frank Moser, Vice-President of the 911 and 718 model lines. “The result is a unique powertrain that is well-integrated into the overall concept and enhances the performance significantly.”
Here’s everything you should know about the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS hybrid.
Performance
The Carrera GTS hybrid features a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine paired with an electrically driven turbocharger and in-transmission electric motor. That means outputs of 478 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque, and a total system power of 532 hp and 449 lb-ft. It can go from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, which shaves off 0.3 seconds than its predecessor with top track speed of 194 mph. This setup enhances acceleration with instant torque, making it noticeably faster off the line.
Despite its power, the hybrid system improves fuel efficiency and lowers CO2 emissions, making it a more environmentally friendly choice without sacrificing performance.
Battery Design
The 911 Carrera GTS hybrid is outfitted with a 1.9kWh lithium-ion battery at the front. It weighs about 37 lbs itself and is comparable to that of a starter battery—light and compact. That, along with the rest of the electrical components, adds a total of 110 lbs to the overall weight of the vehicle. This battery weight isn’t a concern. The belt drive, for example, has been deleted since the new high-voltage electrical system powers the air conditioning system, so the weight of the vehicle doesn’t compromise handling.
Unique design elements
The 2025 Carrera GTS looks like a classic 911, with some subtle differences including model-specific front fascia, unique badging and aerodynamic tweaks. It's equipped with 21-inch wheels as standard, and for the first time, 911 Carrera Exclusive Design wheels with carbon fibre aeroblades are offered.
Inside are high-quality materials, advanced infotainment system including a fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.6-inch curved display. You’ll also find hybrid-specific displays showing power distribution and battery status.
What’s the driving experience like?
Driving the 911 Carerra GTS hybrid is seamless, with a smooth transition between electric and gas power. The car’s handling remains sharp and responsive, despite the added weight of the hybrid components. It proves that hybrid technology can enhance a sports car’s performance without compromising on its essence.
