At Porsche, we’re never not improving. Our desire to set the standard for what luxury and speed look and feel like is deeply embedded in our ethos. It’s this need to continuously refine and refresh that keeps our fleet so fresh.
That’s how the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS, the drop-top sibling to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, came to be. The all-new coupe is an exercise in elevating our already existing top-tier machines, and combining some of our most prized and celebrated features.
The 718 Spyder RS shares the same engine as the six-cylinder found in the 911 GT3 boxer with outputs of 493 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. Because of this, the 2024 718 Spyder RS is now the fastest and most powerful roadster of all time at Porsche.
“The 718 Spyder RS raises driving pleasure to a new level for open-top cars,” says Porsche’s Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Cars. “The combination of our unmistakable GT3 engine, the close-ratio transmission, compact dimensions, low weight, road-optimized racing suspension and maximum openness offers an extremely compelling and unfiltered driving experience.”
It’s a beast of a machine that power-hungry Porsche aficionados will be itching to experience.
Its top speed is now 308 km/h rather than the previous 300 km/h. The short-ratio seven-speed PDK transmission means that the 718 Spyder RS will touch the 100-km/h mark in just 3.4 seconds, which is half a second faster than its predecessor. Give it even more gas to hit the 200-km/h mark and you’ll be there in an astonishing 10.9 seconds. The 2024 RS Spyder is lighter than the previous 718 Spyder (without the ‘RS’ badge), too, weighing in at 40 kg less than its peer.
It’s undeniably fast, particularly for a soft-top, and the side-mount air intakes that have been expertly positioned behind the headrests create a full-body experience that vibrates the inner workings like a high-end audio surround sound system.
The interior is luxe and exudes the expected performance features, like race-ready bucket seats made of lightweight CFRP with a carbon-weave and an RS sports steering wheel that’s been outfitted with Race-Tex and bold yellow 12-o’clock markings.
From tip to tail the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS is an impressive engineering feat that undoubtedly echoes our ongoing pursuit for excellence.
