Touted as the ‘sports car of compact SUVs’, the current gen Porsche Macan is a special breed. Not only is this five-door, five-seat vehicle a capable companion for leisurists and sports enthusiasts alike, but it offers the unparalleled handling that is synonymous with Porsche.
There’s a lot to appreciate about the Macan, and with four models to choose from, it’s important to understand the nuances between each one. Read on for a deeper dive into the different Porsche Macan models.
Macan
All of the new gen Macans boast unmistakable lines that reflect the Porsche DNA, including the base Macan. There’s the ‘flyline’ sloping roof, the front fascia, the reimagined spoiler, plus the side blades, all of which have received an upgrade. The base Macan is the entry level, but it’s far from basic. This compact luxury crossover SUV has 261 hp from a four-cylinder 2-litre turbo engine, and a seven-speed transmission with all-wheel drive.
Macan T
The Macan T—which stands for Touring—shares many similarities under the hood as the base model Macan, but the Sport Chrono Package can make it 0.2 seconds faster when going from zero to 100 km/h. It has other attractive upgrades, like 20” titanium wheels (the base has standard 19” wheels) and unique exterior design elements done in Agate Grey Metallic paint. It’s also lower than the base Macan, sitting 15 mm below its peer.
Macan S
There’s significantly more power in the Macan S thanks to its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque that takes it from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Impressive for an SUV, right? The power delivery feels effortless and you can sense the instant responsiveness behind the wheel. The optional Sport Chrono Package offers a mode switch, meaning you have the option to change the chassis, engine and transmission settings, and the Sport Response button on the steering wheel allows you to switch between four modes: ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’, ‘Sport Plus’ and ‘Individual’.
Macan GTS
For drivers who won’t settle for anything but the best, there’s the Macan GTS. This machine could easily find its place on the track, if you gave it the chance, but it’s equally as happy to play chauffeur and transport its driver and passengers comfortably through city streets. It looks good doing it. The GTS Sport Package comes with limited add-ons, including a stunning and exclusive exterior colour, Python Green, as well as trim in Satin Black. Aggressive 21” GT Design wheels with performance tires add to the appeal, as does the GT Sport steering wheel, adaptive Sport seats with comfort memory package and exclusive materials, like carbon fibre, race-tex and an enhanced leathers.
