It did not take long for the Macan to become a fan favorite. Initially released in 2014, the Macan was Porsche’s answer to the increasingly popular crossover segment of vehicles. While the Cayenne had been in production since 2003, there wasn’t any middle ground between Porsche’s sports cars and their SUV. This is where the Macan stepped in — cleverly blending SUV practicality with sports car excitement. It featured Porsches Doppel Kupplungs transmission (PDK), sporty powertrain options, and class-defining driving dynamics for those not willing to sacrifice driving enjoyment for everyday practicality.
It took only 3 years for the Macan to become the best-selling model in the Porsche lineup. In that time it has seen a series of improvements, undergoing three generation changes, with the latest being the transition to Macan III in Q4 of 2021. The current generation Macan is available as a Macan 4, Macan T, Macan S, and Macan GTS. The range-topping GTS variant produces 434hp — continuing to set the standard for performance in its class.
What’s Next For Our Most Popular Model? Electrification.
The all-electric Macan is planned to hit the market in 2024. As confirmed by
This is not Porsche’s first electric rodeo. The Cayenne and Panamera have been offered as hybrids since 2010, and plug-in hybrids since 2014. The 918 Spyder was Porsche’s first foray into high-performance electrification, and in 2019 the first Porsche Taycan went on sale. The Taycan was Porsche’s first EV, and quickly set the gold standard for electric performance — with the current Porsche Taycan Turbo S currently holding the EV lap record at Nurburgring Nordschleife. With over 100,000 Taycans produced, the Macan EV will be the next chapter in Porsche’s accomplished electric history.
