So 991s are old now, which is great. As we know, the 911 value curve for each generation is parabolic. Great Porsches depreciate towards a vertex, and after some time they begin to appreciate again. The 991 generation 911s are great Porsches, and at 10 years old they are on the journey towards that vertex of depreciation. Now there are many reasons to be interested in a 991, and being a possible investment should never be top of mind when looking at a vehicle. So here are the real reasons you should look at a 991:

Improvements over the preceding generation:

Compared to the previous 997 generation, the 991 gained size and weight. With this size and weight came refinement, and a car that was much easier to drive than its predecessor; thanks to its wider track and longer wheelbase. The interior of the 991 gained refinement from Porsche’s experience mass producing vehicles like the Cayenne and Macan. Most importantly, the 991 gained significantly in speed and power. The 991.1 was quicker than the generation before despite the gain in size and weight. The 991.2 generation made even bigger power gains with the introduction of turbochargers to the entire 911 lineup. Even for those who idolize the 997 as the best generation of watercooled 911 (myself), it is impossible not to admit what an improvement the 991 was.

Advantages over the succeeding generation:

The 992 that we have today continued on this improvement. It’s bigger, faster, more refined, and of course newer. However, the 991 maintains its advantages. They’re a fraction of the price for earlier models and they can be had naturally aspirated. Most importantly for any interested buyers, they came in a huge variety of configurations and they were the most produced generation of 911 ever. So not only are they readily available, but you have a broad selection. To list a few; there was the base Carrera, the S, the 4S, the Targa, the GTS, the 911T, the Turbo, the Turbo S, the GT3, the GT3 RS, the GT2 RS, the 911R, the Speedster, the 50th anniversary edition, the Clubsport GTS, and the 935, among many others. With enough searching, you can find the 911 that fits your preference for a fraction of the price of a new one.

Our choice? Check out the 991.1 4GTS with a manual transmission. The 430 horsepower naturally aspirated engine with a stick provides an experience that only the GT3 does for the 992 generation.
