Powertrain and Power Output
Based on the 992 generation of the 911 GT3 R, the rennsport borrows the same powertrain: a naturally aspirated 4.2-Liter six-cylinder. The mechanics, however, have been updated in order to offer even greater performance, which includes increased compression and specific pistons and cam shafts.
The results of these modifications? Instead of 557 horsepower, it releases 611 horsepower at 9,400 rpm! The top speed also reaches 20 km/hr more than the regular GT3 R, which can go up to 320 km/hr.
This new edition is equipped with a six-speed sequential transmission that has been slightly modified, along with an exclusive upshift performance function that can increase the rpms.
Limited to 77 units, it offers a raw experience of pure pleasure and excitement on the racetrack. Let’s also not forget the outstanding engine sound –that is unless you opt for a muffler, which is offered for racetracks that come with noise restrictions.
Body Specs
Carbon fiber takes center stage in the construction of this powerful lightweight car –with an empty weight of only 2,733 pounds (1,240 kg). Lighter but wider, it stands tall and proud.
Offered in 7 body colours, it can also come in one of the three thematic options with different hues:
• Flacht Design, a Porsche Motorsport classic combination of red and white;
• Rennsport Reunion Design, an homage to the Laguna Seca racetrack;
• Speed Icon Design, a mixture of different shades of blue that make the vehicle’s width truly stand out.
The design combines the classic appearance of a competition car while also integrating an ultra-modern design. Without diving back into a retro style, it does remind us of the vehicle’s history, on the occasion of the Porsche 911’s 60th anniversary.
The 911 GT3 R represents the base, but the “Rennsport” is equipped with several modified components, including aerodynamically optimized geometry, air intakes and cooling ducts. Wider, it boasts a massive rear wing. Moreover, it has a stunning LED light strip with illuminated PORSCHE letters.
When looking at pictures of this sculptural marvel –which is also a beast on the racetrack-, you will notice that this Porsche 911 has no side-view mirrors. In fact, they are replaced by a digital camera system with 3 subtly integrated cameras, whose images can be visualized on interior monitors.
Finally, the vehicle is equipped with dark silver metallic 18- inch rims featuring Michelin tires that are specially designed for the model. Behind the wheels, you will find AP Racing calipers that are mounted on titanium supports.
Both light and aerodynamic, it will impress you on the track while also providing you with an adrenaline rush worthy of the brand’s best sports cars.
The Interior
Inside, you will enjoy an interior worthy of the best race cars. This is actually a one-seater race car, which means that you will not be able to bring a passenger with you, to witness your impressive performance from within the cockpit.
A wider car does mean that you will have access to a comfortable amount of space and that you will feel at ease with the different commands. The sports seat also provides you with optimal support and is only crafted using only high-quality materials. You will also be driving the car thanks to a typical multi-function sports steering wheel. A portion of the interior space is also taken up by a protection bar.
This engineers’ lightweight focus can also be seen in the body’s carbon structure, although Porsche takes this a step further. The advanced seat cooling concept allows the manufacturer to fully eliminate ventilation, which translates into a lighter weight without sacrificing on your comfort on board!
On-Board Technologies
As we have mentioned, conventional side mirrors have been replaced by a digital system. The cameras have been brilliantly integrated into the design, allowing you to remain alert in an intuitive way.
The center screen also boasts special graphics, and you can proudly look at your limited edition number which is displayed on the dashboard, alongside precious driving information. Ambient lighting also contributes to a truly unique experience at all times.
All in all, this new Porsche limited edition is the perfect way to commemorate the 911’s 60th anniversary, by offering ultimate levels of performance.
