Before the first generation of the Porsche Cayenne was launched in 2002, the Zuffenhausen manufacturer focused on designing high-performance sports cars for the track and the road. After the Cayenne’s outstanding success, Porsche decided to develop a whole new line of vehicles destined to offer the best of Porsche performance, wherever they were used. Since then, the German brand has greatly diversified its vehicles capable of bringing the adventure to the road and off of it: in 2014, the Macan was introduced. It was later available in different versions. More recently, Porsche unveiled a wagon version of the Taycan with a “backpacker” spirit. However, with this increased selection comes a bigger problem: which one to choose? Porsche Lauzon, your Porsche dealership in Laval, on the North-Shore of Montreal, helps you make a choice with this friendly comparison “2022 Porsche Macan VS 2022 Porsche Cayenne VS 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo”!
Comparing exterior body lines: several traits in common but many differences as well!
Let’s first take a look at exterior styling. After all, it will be the first thing you see when you look at your future Porsche for the first time, no matter if it is a 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo, a 2022 Cayenne or a 2022 Macan.
When you look at these models, you will be surprised to notice how all three of them share many things in common: prominent front fenders on which headlights are integrated to the tips (reminding us of those of the iconic 911), finely sculpted silhouette and rear light strip that runs across the entire width (which reminds us of the 911 Type 964). In short, all three are authentic Porsche vehicles, given that their physical characteristics and style makes it undeniable!
However, each of them also has a distinct personality. Firstly, when looking at the body, the most obvious difference is in how the Taycan Cross Turismo stands out from the Cayenne and Macan. Put it simply, the Taycan has the silhouette of a station wagon, with black plastic wheel arches –used to protect these very arches from pebble projections. As a result, the Taycan’s profile is slenderer than that of the two other Porsches.
The other two have a much more intimidating and compact look. This is mainly due to increased ground clearance, which is a characteristic fitting their sports utility vehicle nature. The second major difference can be found in the headlights. It is the first thing you will notice when standing in front of the Cayenne VS the Taycan Cross Turismo or the Macan VS the Taycan Cross Turismo. If the family resemblance is undeniable for all three vehicles, the Taycan headlights are more futuristic than that of the other two Porsche SUVs, with a particularly “recessed” look, while the 2022 Macan and the 2022 Cayenne headlights look like they have been integrated to their extremities. This aspect is what gives the Macan and the Cayenne a much more aerodynamic profile.
Other distinctions should also be made between the Porsche Macan vs the Cayenne. In fact, other than the fact that the Macan is smaller compared to the Cayenne (after all it does belong to a category of smaller vehicles), the Cayenne is available in a SUV coupe version as well as in a “classic” SUV version. The coupe version gives the Cayenne a much sportier look than its traditional variant. The same can be said about the Macan, especially thanks to its hood, that is angled towards the back.
So:
- If you prefer station wagons and do not need higher ground clearance (like the one offered by the Macan and the Cayenne) and/or are looking for futuristic exterior styling, we recommend you consider the 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo first.
- If you prefer SUVs of an imposing size and unparalleled charisma, or if you are looking, above all, for a sports utility coupe, then the 2022 Cayenne will be the right one for you.
- If you are looking for a classic Porsche design integrated within an SUV but in a more compact size, with great handling both in the city and on the highway, the 2022 Macan will be the only one that will meet your expectations!
The best of the best in terms of Porsche performance, yet with very different powerplants!
You know it as well as we do: a Porsche must be judged first and foremost by its technical characteristics and not on its exterior, even if it is a Porsche station wagon or a SUV. In the same way, the 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, the 2022 Porsche Macan and the 2022 Porsche Cayenne are no exception to this rule.
Each of these models delivers unparalleled performance. All available versions for each model in the Metropolitan Area, as well as their characteristics, have been grouped together, as you can see below:

Here you will notice straight away that, whatever model or version you are considering, when it comes to performance, the 2022 Macan, 2022 Cayenne and 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo are truly authentic Porsche vehicles. However, the three models deliver this performance quite differently, each having different powertrain architecture.
When it comes to the Taycan, it is a 100% electric model with a 93.4 kWh battery supporting the synchronous motor for each version, which allows it to offer an electric autonomy that can vary from 325 to 346 km. The electric motor will have combined power ranging from 469 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of maximum torque to 750 horsepower and 774 lb-ft. of maximum torque when in Launch Mode. As for charging times, they are very short! For all versions, you’ll need 10.5 hours on a 240 V plug, and 24 minutes with a 400 V charging station, to charge your Taycan completely.
The new Porsche Cayenne, on the other hand, offers many engine options. Some of these are combustion only (“Cayenne”, S, GTS and Turbo versions) and power and torque vary between 335 HP/ 332 lb-ft. to 541 HP/567 lb-ft., while other versions are plug-in hybrids. These hybrids have capacities that can range from 455 HP/516 lb-ft. (Cayenne E-Hybrid) to 670 HP/664 lb-ft. (Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid). Contrary to the combustion-engine-only versions, they can run on electricity alone for distances that range from 24 to 27 km, depending on the version. Charging times are even shorter than those for the Taycan Cross Turismo since they are the same for all versions and are of only 3.0 hrs on a 240V charging station! This is also the model with the most available versions (6 for the SUV only, as you have seen above!).
The only model with no hybrid/electric version at the moment is the new Porsche Macan. In fact, for 2022, only combustion engines are offered. They deliver from 261 HP for the base model to 434 HP and 406 lb-ft. of maximum torque for the 2022 Macan GTS. However, the small Porsche SUV will soon have its own electric version. It is said to be arriving in 2023. For the moment, the Macan only has internal combustion engines.
When it comes to performance (and according to the data stated above, grouping all 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, 2022 Cayenne SUV and 2022 Porsche Macan versions) it is the 100 % electric Porsche wagon (Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo) which offers the most extraordinary numbers, with a 0-100 km/hr performed in just 2.9 seconds. The 2022 Cayenne comes second (in its 2022 Turbo S E-Hybrid version: 0-100 km/hr in 3.8 seconds with the Sport Chrono package). The Macan finishes third, even though it is just as great (2022 Macan GTS 0-100 km/hr: 4.5 seconds). However, if we look at top speeds, winners swap places (1st: Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid – 295 km/hr. 2nd: Macan GTS – 272 km/hr. 3rd: Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo – 250 km/hr). Moreover, Porsche all-wheel-drive comes standard on all models and versions.
Finally, last but not least: if you need a large towing capacity, it is important to note that towing is not recommended with the new Taycan Cross Turismo, contrary to the Cayenne and Macan that can tow significant charges (up to 2 400 kg for the Macan and 3 500 kg for the Cayenne).
In summary:
- If it is important for you to have the highest possible fuel efficiency and astounding accelerations, but that autonomy is not as important, then you should opt for one of the 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo.
- If, on the other hand, you would like to have a great balance between fuel and electricity, fantastic accelerations coupled with the highest possible top speed and, above all, the largest selection of versions, only the Cayenne will satisfy your needs.
- If you are looking for the highest possible performance level but in a compact size that is just as comfortable in the urban jungle as it is on highways, the Macan will be perfect for you!
Interiors: different cargo space capacities, but the same luxury and technology level for all three!
Before we conclude, let’s compare interiors: the biggest and most important difference will be found in the volumes offered in terms of cargo space. Here they are for all the different versions that were listed and grouped above in the previous table:

We can see once more that the Cayenne, a Porsche medium size SUV, offers the largest amount of cargo space, with a volume ranging from 772 liters with second row of seats in place to 1 708 liters once rear seats are folded down (for the most generous versions). Second comes the Macan, which is the compact Porsche SUV, offering a very interesting volume ranging between 488 L and 1 503 L once all seats are folded.
As for the 100% electric wagon adventurer, the Taycan Cross Turismo, it is third. The versions that offer the largest amount of cargo space, the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo and the 4S Cross Turismo, both offer the same capacity, ranging from 466 to 1 212 liters. However, all Taycan Cross Turismo have an added storage space at the front with an 84 liter capacity. All things considered, largest cargo spaces are offered by the 2022 Cayenne and 2022 Macan respectively.
As for the rest, the three vehicles are equals, starting with their interior design which is, once more, 100% Porsche, with classic lines that will always remain timeless. The same can be said for fit and finish quality. Everything has been built to last. You will only find materials of the highest quality onboard, and adjustments are rock-solid, as usual with Porsche.
As for onboard technologies, they are on par with those from the best premium limousines: the interior can be upholstered with Club leather whereas electric seats can offer 18 different settings and a memory function. You could also benefit from adaptive cruise control, soft close doors, and a Burmester premium sound system, while passengers from the 2nd row could enjoy their own infotainment unit. Depending on the 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo, the 2022 Cayenne or the 2022 Macan you choose, you will have everything you could ever dream to turn all your rides around the Laval area into very enjoyable moments!
The Taycan for accelerations, the Cayenne for space and the Macan for the excellent size/versatility balance.
