Pfaff Motorsports tallies dominant fifth win prior to IMSA finale

Alton, VA. (August 29, 2022) – A decisive fifth victory in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this past weekend at VIRginia International Raceway has all but clinched back-to-back series titles for Pfaff Motorsports.

Excellent strategy calls paired with on-track maneuvers by Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet led the No. 9 Driveway Porsche 911 GT3 R to victory lane in the penultimate race of the season. Campbell started third on the grid, but quickly moved to second on the first lap, before Jaminet advanced to the lead through pit stops, expertly saving fuel and navigating traffic to finish first overall.

Pfaff Motorsports is now the winningest team in the WeatherTech Championship this season amongst all classes. VIR – the second of two GT-only events – also saw Pfaff Motorsports victorious last year in GTD, and Sunday’s success has the team poised to win the inaugural GTD Pro title by starting the season finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

The 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, at 12:10 p.m. ET. Endurance driver Felipe Nasr will rejoin Campbell and Jaminet for the team’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup efforts, which has the season-long duo only three points from that championship lead as well.

Matt Campbell, Driver:
“Coming into the weekend we didn’t know quite what to expect, but as we saw in qualifying and practice, the field was extremely tight. Today was a strategy race, and the guys on the pit stand made the right calls at the right time. And for us in the car, we didn’t make any mistakes – which was key, because it was not easy out there. Now we can have the championship in the bag after we start the race at Petit Le Mans. Hopefully we can send the car off with a win in its last ever race.”

Mathieu Jaminet, Driver:
“It was a little bit of a crazy race due to different strategies. We were leading (in class), but I started third overall at the restart. It was super tight, and we had a couple of contacts. In the end, the team did a fantastic job and the team once again got it right on strategy. We knew it was not going to be easy, but in the end, it was a proper team effort from everyone. Now we just go for another win at Petit Le Mans.”
