1. Tell us your name, and the province and city you are from? Jonathan Garcia, Ontario, Aurora
2. What Porsche model(s) do you own? 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Tursimo, 2004 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
3. Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background? I born and raised in the Toronto area. Second generation Filipino, son of immigrants who came to this country with little in their pocket and a dream of a better life. Father of 2 and husband to loving (and patient) wife of over 14 years. Trained as a Nurse Practitioner and worked and lived in Nunavut for almost 10 years. Came back and worked in the public sector and started a Medical Concierge Company about 6 years ago that has grown to a national operation.
4. Can you give us some details about your Porsche(s)? My first Porsche was the purchase of my 2004 996 Turbo that I purchased in 2018. With regrets of missing the air-cooled phenomena that has skyrocketed prices I managed to catch Porsches’ first water-cooled 911 before those prices start to climb which they already have. I wanted al fresco motoring and opted for a cabriolet. Hearing the thrush of the turbos unfiltered with the wind and road sounds make for a visceral experience. A perfectly ratioed 6 speed manual and very analogue feeling steering give me the closest to what I think an air-cooled feels like without the astronomical cost of entry. Those “fried-egg headlights” that were so maligned when Pinky Lai etched them on the first drawing have aged well to my eyes. In my opinion, down the road, this design will make this car stand out in among rest of 911 generations. Plus, those BBS LM’s are fire!!!!!
My 2022 Tacan GTS Sport Turismo is something truly special. First…it’s Porsche’s first full electric car….But it’s still a Porsche….Second….that color…Rubystar Red. I have always loved this color. Especially on the 964. So what better way to kick off Porsche’s entry to the future than with an iconic retro color! The shooting brake design of the Sport Turismo and the bright “pink” make this “station wagon” the talk of the town. And those wheels….22” custom phone dials….paying homage to the 928…but in 3 piece with exposed hardware…What can I say? They are a celebrity on their own. Taking the term OEM plus to the next level. Add to that, the matching the Rubystar Red roof box for our trips to the local hill and this has got to be the hottest sled on wheels…The drive is well…..electric!
5. Speak a bit about how your relationship with Porsche started. I have always loved cars since I could crawl….dinky cars, remote control cars, model cars that I painted (the fumes I’m sure killed some brain cells prematurely) But I have always gravitated to Porsche….One of my first magazines I bought was a Road and Track Magazine with the “new” 930 turbo…in guards red of course! I had fascination with the front engine cars of the 80’s and 90’s…the 944, 928, 968…pop up headlights…loved them! But my love was always for the 911. I remember the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie “Commando”. Classic 80’s action movie. One of the baddies drove a yellow long hood Targa…Arnold had to “let him go” (500 feet into the ravine) But he took the car to continue his chase. I would go to auto show each year and always wanted to check out the latest “Porsche”
6. What was your earliest memory with the brand? When I was 10 years old I would bike 30 minutes to the the closest Porsche dealership and smother my face on the window…dreaming of somehow being able to own one of those cars some day. Many years later, that day finally came.
7. What speaks to you the most about Porsche? A timeless identifiable design that has evolved over the past 75 years but still continues to stay true to its original design. The racing heritage. The fact that they have been able to make the greatest sports car that based on physics alone should not perform the way it does. They are practical, fast and reliable. What more can you ask of a car!
8. As a child, did you dream of owning a Porsche, and if so how? Is it possible that I dreamed of owning a Porsche since I was in utero??? Because I swear that’s how long I have been dreaming….I think the shape of my sonogram was the that of the 911 but I could be wrong….
9. What inspired you to pursue your dreams? My parents, they sacrificed a lot so that I could chase my dreams. My kids, I want to inspire them to achieve their dreams….what ever they may be…but to achieve that through grit, determination, perseverance and humility.
10. What’s one piece of advice you would share with other dreamers out there? Take risks, accept loss but learn and keep persevering. Do the hard things that no one wants to do…do it well…that creates value...
11. How have you overcome obstacles along the way to achieving your dreams? By maintaining discipline, be the hardest worker in the room
12. How do you stay motivated and focused on your dreams and goals? To keep my body healthy and my mind focused. One cannot occur without the other.
13. What do you enjoy the most about your car(s)? The fact that they both can be a “family car” and a speed weapon at the same time.
14. Why is your Porsche(s) special to you? One was my very first 911, the other was such a unique and custom build…one of one.
15. Is there anything that is unique about your Porsche(s)? One is a completely analog experience, the other digital….both are quintessentially Porsche.
16. Out of all of the Porsche models you’ve owned, what is the one that stands out the most? Can I say both???
17. In a few words what emotion(s) does your car evoke in you? Excitement and thrills…each time I stab the throttle and row the gears on my 911 or each time press the accelerator in the Taycan…it happens…every, single….time
18. Is there a Porsche model in history that is on your bucket-list to drive or own? My bucket list is owning a race bred, normally aspirated flatsix that screams to 9000 RPM. My next dream car is a 911 GT3….in Mint Green….maybe even a Speedster! That would be my dream…..can you say….allocation? (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
