We’re in celebration mode as 2023 marks a milestone anniversary of 75 years of Porsche. Global events have been aplenty as we honour the success story of the brand and everyone who has contributed.
Porsche aficionados will know that Ferry Porsche first dreamt up his sports car concept, the Porsche 356 No. 1 Roadster, in 1948. He didn’t know then, but the development of this initial car would mark the birth of a decades-long success story, one that would reach far beyond the automotive realm and into general popular culture, becoming a cornerstone of luxury.
“75 years of Porsche stand for pioneering spirit, passion and dreams,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “We are celebrating together with people who are inspired by dreams.”
The Porsche 75 commemoration started in January with a comprehensive exhibition titled ‘Driven by Dreams. 75 years of Porsche sports cars’ hosted at the ‘DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum’ event space in Berlin. (If you happen to be in Berlin before the end of the year, the exhibit runs until September 10, 2023.) It’s an immersive display that offers visitors deeper insight into the true vision of the Porsche brand, and also has a component where patrons can contribute their dreams and values via a digital recording.
“We are proud of our heritage,” says Blume. “It is the foundation for a successful future. We associate our heritage with innovation and progress – and continually add extraordinary new moments to the unique Porsche story.”
Events have taken place outside of Porsche’s motherland, too. Here at Porsche Centre Oakville, we hosted a vibrant evening event, the Porsche True North (PTN) After Dark soiree. It was held in honour of Porsche 75 and we welcomed long-time fans of the brand as well as newcomers to a night filled with Porsche appreciation. (More on that here, in case you missed it.)
Other cities are honouring the anniversary, too. The ‘75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars’ exhibit will be held at a few prestigious galleries, including the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Porsche is also taking content derived from the ‘Driven by Dreams’ Berlin exhibit and bringing it to 60 destinations across North America and Europe. It’ll be displayed on a ‘Heritage Truck’ that has been specifically created for the 75th anniversary tour.
The 75 Anniversary global fete will come to an end in California at the Rennsport Reunion car show (September 28 to October 1), capping off an incredible homage to this brand we know and admire.
Three quarters of a century later, and we’re stronger than ever. Porsche Centre Oakville is deeply honoured to be part of the Porsche story and we’re thrilled to have you along for the ride.
