It was a disappointing race two for Porsche Centre Oakville driver Daniel Morad, but teammate Michal de Quesada managed his first podium finish of the season.
The race started as expected with both Morad and Scott Hargrove battling for position leading into turn one. After Morad’s bold move on the outside of the first corner in Saturday’s race, leading him and the team to victory, Hargrove did not want to lose touch again on the opening lap. Hargrove took the lead in turn one with Morad close behind. Looking for another opportunity to snag the lead heading into the next turn, this time taking the inside line, Morad found a gap and was able to edge in front of Hargrove.
Morad completed the pass at the bottom of turn 2. After Morad’s pass, Hargrove left the racing circuit, cutting through the grass to try and find a way by, ultimately colliding with Morad’s rear bumper sending the GT3 Cup car into a spin and ending the race for the Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsport driver. Hargrove’s GT3 also sustained significant damage during the incident ending his race as well.
After the dust settled from the incident between the two leaders, the race settled into a smooth pace. Michael de Quesada, starting in fifth position, managed to find second position behind race leader Zack Robichon. He would hold and complete the race in second place, his first podium finish of the season.
Tim Sanderson also made some progress having started in seventh place. Mid race he found himself behind the number 13 car driven by Orey Fidani. Tim kept on the pressure and managed to find an opening to pass Fidani, taking fifth place.
While disappointed by the incident, these are early days and the team remains optimistic. There is a full year of experience under their belts and having experienced a number of setbacks last year, they know how to overcome adversity.
Morad’s car will be a back at Porsche Centre Oakville for repair, and our next race will be in two weeks in Montreal supporting Canada’s largest Motorsport event, the F1.
