Camp4 - the ultimate winter driving experience. We hosted our own Camp4 experience at Megaglisse race track in Quebec this past February. 40 Porsche Centre Oakville customers and guests made their way to the Estrel Resort, about 2 hr North of Montreal, to experience the thrill of a lifetime — learning how to drive a 400 horsepower Porsche across a frozen track.
While the daytime temperature hovered around the -32 degree celsius mark, our group of intrepid enthusiasts were made to feel warm and welcome by the Camp4 staff - each sporting their Porsche red Canada Goose winter jackets. As if the warm welcome wasn’t enough, the sight of over 20 Porsche 911s and Caymans, beautifully staged and perfectly lined-up, certainly made the weather more bearable.
The Camp4 fleet includes Porsche 911 C2 (rear wheel drive models), Porsche 911 C4 (all wheel drive) and Porsche Cayman models. Each equipped with 1.5mm studded tires. The vehicles were all set to a comfortable 22 degrees celsius, ready and waiting for our team.
After meeting our Porsche certified driving instructors our group eagerly made their way to the staging area. The track at Megaglisse had been split up into 3 different areas - each specifically set up to demonstrate and teach participants a particular winter driving skill.
- The doughnut — A circular ice track in which participants learn the fine art of drifting.
- The figure eight — In this section participants test their skills drifting and managing weight shift of their Porsche as they maneuver their cars from a left to right drift.
- The fishtail — Here participants attempt to perfect the fishtail through a slippery slalom run.
In the event a participant took a corner a little too hard or decided to cut a snow banked corner a little to tight, we had several Porsche Cayennes on hand with tow cables. Good thing too as they came into play during the course of the day.
The day ran like clock work — each group experiencing the exhilarating thrill of pushing their Porsches to their traction limits, and in some cases beyond. In every case participants exited with child like grins.
There is more to buying a Porsche than the financial transaction. Owning a Porsche is an experience. It is visceral and memorable. Camp4 is one of the many events we hold over the year in an effort to allow our customers to fully immerse themselves in that experience.
