Porsche made a bold statement during the Frankfurt auto show, presenting an electron-powered concept signaling the future direction of the company’s products.
The concept is the Porsche Mission E, a four-door, four seats sports car with all-wheel drive, a total of 600 horsepower and many references to the iconic 911. The driving range of the Mission E is over 500 kilometres, and the innovative 800-volts battery charging system reduces charging time to just slightly longer than it takes to fill a car's fuel tank today.
The Mission E ispowered by two permanently-excited synchronous electric motors capable of catapulting this electric concept to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and to 200 km/h in under twelve seconds. These electric motors are similar in concept to the ones powering the Le Mans winner 919 Hybrid.
While Porsche put the future on display in Frankfurt, you can see the work they are putting into it today at our dealership in the Panamera and Cayenne Hybrids.
Both these stunning vehicles have received new wraps and are the most technologically advanced vehicles we have in our lineup.
Porsche’s Panamera S E-Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid sports-sedan; the electric motor produces 95 horsepower (70 kW) and draws its energy from an advanced 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. With the new hybrid drive, the Panamera S E-Hybrid can reach a top speed of 133 km/h in pure electric mode, while accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
The parallel full hybrid concept developed by Porsche also offers “coasting” at higher speeds, which allows the engine to turn off to save fuel and engage the energy recovery system, which restores electricity to the lithium-ion batteries.
In the same vein, but on the SUV front, the Cayenne S E Hybrid is a full fledged world premiere. It is the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment. This hybrid SUV shares its 95 horsepower motor with the Panamera S E-Hybrid, combined here to a 10.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The combined total power output of the supercharged 3.0 litre V6 engine and the electric motor is 416 horsepower and 435 lb.-ft. of torque, good for sports car performance: 0 to 100 km/h takes just 5.5 seconds while top speed is 243 km/h. The electric top speed is 125 km/h, in pure silence!
This electrified lineup offers no compromise and should you be in the dealership I’d urge you to step into the future and take one out for a test drive.
