Starting third and jumping in second position by the end of the first lap, Daniel Morad’s race ended up being clipped short.
Morad held onto this second position for the first ten laps; he was then passed by series leader Chris Green. Soon after, he had the Mark Motors duo of cars on his heels, but disaster struck on lap 11.
Mark Motors’ Marco Cirone thought he had a chance to pass Morad’s Alegra/Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsport race-car, but overshot the turn and both cars ended up hitting each other, resulting in a suspension failure on Morad’s car.
Morad managed to bring the car back to the pits, but his race was over. Cirone was able finish the race, but received a penalty for his behaviour during a flag.
All was not lost for the team as Tim Sanderson, racing with Morad as part of Alegra/Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsport, ended up with a third place victory.
The race saw a few other casualties, including number 34, Shaun McKaigue of Fiorano Racing who hit the wall right in front of pit row.
Hargrove held onto the lead until the end of an eventful race, followed by Green and Sanderson.
Morad will have a chance to spend more time at the wheel during Race 2 which will be held tomorrow at 1:10 pm. He will again be starting third.
