Thornhill native, Daniel Morad, is at the wheel of Alegra/Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsport team's Porsche GT3 of in the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin race series.
Rounds 3 and 4 of the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin are taking place this weekend, June 12-14, during the Honda Indy Toronto on the streets of Toronto’s Exhibition centre. Both races are 45 minutes long.
Today consists of two rounds of practice before tomorrow morning’s qualifications round.
Morad, who is racing on this track for the first time, describes the track as challenging with very narrow walls. It had just rained before the first practice, so this one ended up being a slippery and a treacherous experience, but Morad found the track to be “so much fun!”
So much fun, but also very treacherous with many changes in surface, alternating between concrete and blacktop.
In his first two races held at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, formerly known as Mosport, Morad posted a respectable third place overall finish.
After a successful karting debut, Morad became a member of the Red Bull Junior Team, which has groomed 12 drivers who reached F1 in the last decade. At 18 he was headed to Europe and around the world to race in the A1GP and GP3 international open-wheel series, both breeding grounds for future F1 drivers. He won a karting World Championship in 2010 in Italy.
Now 25, he teaches performance driving and enjoys spending time at the wheel of his Alegra/Porsche Centre Oakville Motorsports’ Porsche GT3.
The first race in Toronto will be held Saturday June 13 at 11:40 am.
Another Canadian driver who will be in Toronto is Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe, the only Canadian driver in the Verizon IndyCar Series, who will serve as the grand marshal for the three-day event.
Given James' recent injuries and the outpouring of support for the 'Mayor of Hinchtown' leading up to his hometown race, race fans will have the opportunity to sign a giant 'Get Well Hinch' card throughout the weekend.
