The first Porsche 911, the Targa 2.0, first rolled off the assembly line in 1965. It came with a detachable roof and became an icon of style. It offered the best of two worlds with the safety and comfort of a Coupé combined with the luxurious elegance of a cabriolet. Looking back it's easy to see that it was a true trailblazer in its own right.
The new trio of sports cars has been completed by Porsche just before the start of summer with the third body style out in full force. Moving on from the Cabriolet and the Coupé, the new 911 Targa 4S and the 911 Targa 4 models continue to boast many of the innovative features originally found in the 1965 Targa model. These features include the legendary automatic roof system, a roof section that can be moved just above the front seats and a wide roll hoop. There is also a classic rear window that wraps around and it only takes 19 seconds to open and close the roof.
The new Porsche models have brought us into a new dimension with acceleration speeds even faster than they used to be with acceleration speeds for the 911 Targa 4S going from zero to 100 km/hour in only 3.6 seconds and the 911 Targa 4 reaching the 100 km/hour mark in 4.2 seconds - with the Sport Chrono optional package installed.
Both new models come with turbocharged 6-cylinder, 3-litre boxer engines to provide ultimate performance along with everyday usability.
The chassis has been optimized to provide more safety and comfort and better traction can be expected due to the all-wheel drive functionality. Driving, handling and comfort is superior with adjustments made automatically for different driving situations. There are also two maps - Sport and Normal - that can be adjusted manually. These, along with other driving features, provides the ultimate responsiveness for various driving conditions to provide maximum stability.
The design of the exterior has many of the same elements found in the 992 generation models. The new 911 Targa, however, comes with wheel housings that are much more pronounced at the front and the hood displays a recess that is very distinctive. The outer skin has been made of aluminum, with an impressive style that is highlighted with a wider rear spoiler and integrated light bar.
