New engines, new chassis, innovative control concept and more connectivity.
The third generation Porsche Cayenne was introduced in dramatic fashion on August 29 at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The new edition of the highly successful model will arrive with even more performance and everyday practicality than its predecessor.
At market launch the new Cayenne and Cayenne S will feature more powerful turbo engines - a 3.0-litre powerplant in the base model delivering 340 hp, and a 2.9-litre V6 in the Cayenne S outputting 440 hp.
Based heavily on the Porsche 911 sports car, the third-gen Cayenne will now be equipped with mixed tires and rear-axle steering - as standard equipment. And if that wasn't enough, several other performance features will now be included as standard equipment, including active all-wheel drive, Porsche 4D Chassis Control, three-chamber air suspension, and the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) electronic roll stabilization system. You might think this would come with added weight, but the new Cayenne will weigh up to 65 kg less than its predecessor.
Another highlight is the new eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, which also contributes to the increased performance of the new Cayenne. Shorter response times and sportier ratios in the lower gears enhance the performance of the Cayenne both on and off-road. The long-transmission eighth gear ensures low torques, optimized fuel consumption and relaxed driving.
Technology has also evolved in the new Cayenne, starting with the integration of the Porsche Advanced Cockpit into the beautifully designed interior. In typical Porsche style, the driver has a central analogue tachometer to view. This is flanked by two 7-inch full- HD displays, which display all other relevant driving data plus additional information selected using the multi-function steering wheel. A 12.3 inch full HD touchscreen with the latest Porsche Communication Management module sits to the right of the steering wheel and provides access to online services, music, and interior settings. Expanded Connect Plus services and a Wi-Fi hotspot are available via the integrated LTE-enabled SIM card.
To top if off, the third-gen Cayenne comes with enhanced exterior look, which is distinctively more Porsche. The enlarged air intakes, larger wheels and tires on the rear axle, and a reduced roof height all contribute to a more athletic and streamlined design.
