Together, but apart. It’s a difficult concept to grasp, but one that we are getting more and more used with each passing day. With physical distancing and cancelled events becoming the norm in 2020, the 1939 Drive Club was still motivated to celebrate its 1st anniversary in unison with its members.
While Porsches all share common DNA, the degree to which they differ gives each of them a unique personality and a true reflection of their owners. Seeing a diverse and unique group of Porsche vehicles reminds us all that we are ‘United by Passion’; the passion for uncompromising performance and character that only a Porsche exhibits.
While nice weather is never a certainty in the lower mainland in October, it very much co-operated as the 1939 Drive Club celebrated its anniversary with a group drive to Harrison Hot Springs. The day started bright and early as guests gathered at Porsche Now Richmond before making the trip east. A total of 27 Porsches and their owners and guests made the trip, along with team members of Porsche Now Richmond in the newest member of the Porsche lineup, the all-electric Taycan.
The sound of 26 flat six engines rumbling along Highway 1 was a welcome sound for those of us who have been waiting for an event like this, and the 280 km round trip was no concern for the electric Taycan. Despite having to wear masks and maintain physical distance, the ability to interact with fellow enthusiasts brought a touch of normalcy back to a most unusual time in all of our lives.
