With the days getting longer, and spring/summer coming around the next corner, we wanted to share some car care tips to ensure the transition of your Porsche from winter mode to sunny weather road trip mode. These are just a few basic tips.
Car Wash
We all need a good wash after a big sweat at the gym, and so does your vehicle. Just like we wash salt from our skin to keep it from drying out, your Porsche need the exact same scrub. Salt from the roads that was used to keep them clear of ice can accelerate any possible rusting which could be detrimental to the overall health of your car.
Battery
Batteries are more of a concern during the winter months but, don’t be caught off guard. With more road trips up and down the coast on the horizon, perform a volt test to ensure that the battery is in good condition. Have a quick check of the terminals to make sure they are clear of dried battery fluid. If anything looks like it’s in bad condition, take it in for servicing right away.
Coolant Flush
Keeping your car cool is one of your top priorities during the summer. Performing a coolant flush by draining the old coolant from the radiator, flushing it with water, and replacing it with clean coolant will ensure the performance of your vehicle is optimized and is not affected during long drives in the Okanagan sun.
A/C System
We may only need A/C in BC for a few months of the year, but your car’s air-conditioning system is crucial during the summer. Few things are more uncomfortable than being in a car with no A/C during those blazing sun filled days driving the scenic route to Tofino. Make sure you’re A/C system has enough Freon and also check for possible leaks. If the air-conditioning is not cool enough, then there could be a leak somewhere that will need to be repaired.
Winter Tire
The winter tire law in BC is from October 1 – March 31. With winter on its way out, make sure you get on your summer or all-seasons. It is a very busy time of year as everyone looks to change their tires around the same time so we recommend booking your service ASAP. Keeping your winter tires on into warmer weather conditions will degrade the tread much faster due to the hotter road surface temperatures. Ensure they are at the correct PSI and are aligned for peak cornering on the sea-to-sky.
