However, as soon as I fired her up, these first impressions were dispelled instantly. The all-new and first ever double wishbone front suspension coupled with a new rear end configuration gives the vehicle a more controlled driving experience compared to its predecessors. Porsche has also doubled the springs rates from the previous GT3 model which, as a surprise, results in an enhanced & comfortable driving experience due to the newly reconfigured front suspension that only seemed to improve with higher speeds. Using the buttons on the steering wheel, the 10.9” central entertainment touch-screen, or the little hot keys below it, put the car into track mode which simplifies both your 7” TFT displays to show only what you need while on the track.
In the previous version of the GT3, the track driving experience was a bit daunting for new or amateur supercar drivers to say the least. However, with this newly innovated suspension setup on the 992 GT3, drivers will definitely feel the increased grip and handling to give even the most reserved of drivers with the confidence to go around corners and curves like a seasoned pro. Pair this with the 6-piston carbon ceramic brakes that have extra cooling courtesy of those additional air-vents, and you can get around the Nordschleife track at the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes. That’s unbelievably fast for a naturally aspirated car and if you’re feeling a bit more-brave, then turn off the driver assists and enjoy some good old-fashioned Porsche sliding fun*. A common dilemma of driving track cars on the road is the need to compromise entertainment features & driver comforts like radio, air conditioning, and seating comfortability but rest assured no such compromises are needed in the all new 992 GT3.
Being perfectly transparent, it is quite obvious that no one needs over 500hp in an everyday vehicle but the 992 GT3 isn’t meant for everyone. It’s for the true car enthusiast who will enjoy taking this model to the track during the Summer to enjoy it in-all it is mechanical & engineering glory while still providing a comfortable experience should you wish to run errands in and around the city.
I was fortunate enough to have the pleasure to drive this vehicle for a day and in all, it’s a vehicle I would recommend any car enthusiast to experience, test drive and purchase if possible. A non compromising vehicle for the non-compromising driver.
