GTS. Three letters that perfectly represent Porsche's philosophy: outstanding performance for everyday use. With the models bearing this logo, Porsche clearly proves that motor sport and versatility are perfectly compatible!
This is particularly true of its most iconic sports car, the 911, whose GTS variant based on the Type 992 was recently unveiled and is available as a coupé, cabriolet and Targa. But with so many variants, which one should you choose? Porsche Rive-Sud, your reference Porsche dealer between St-Hubert and Longueuil, will help you choose the one that suits you best!
Exterior styling: the same 911 concept, but in 3 different flavours!
First of all, let's talk about the exterior styling of the new Porsche 911 GTS. Indeed, this will be the first point of contact you will have with each of them, no matter which model you choose on the South Shore of Montreal!
Knowing that each one is based on the eighth generation of the legendary sports car, you will find everything that makes this evolution one of the most beautiful of the 911 saga. Iconic oval headlights, a low profile perfectly enhanced by low ground clearance and swept-back wings, and a fastback rear end with a superb light strip reminiscent of the Type 964: the new 2022 Porsche 911 GTS models have all the unmistakable beauty of the Type 992.
However, these features are further enhanced by the now indispensable GTS treatment. With exclusive monochrome rear optics, the standard Sport Design package and darker bodywork trim, the new 2022 Porsche 911 GTS range is much more aggressive in its lines, without detracting from the purity of the 911 Type 992's design.
However, there are still major differences between the GTS variants. These are firstly in the body type, with:
- The original 911 coupé line with hardtop for the 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS.
- A traditional cabriolet profile for the 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet and 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet.
- The 2022 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS has a delightfully retro look, with a roll bar and rear window reminiscent of the first models in this version.
The coupé versions are the right choice if you are looking for the timeless, classic 911 design.
If you want the purest body lines, the cabriolet variants without the hardtop of the coupé are the ones that will suit you best.
However, if you want a vintage interpretation of the lines for your Porsche 911 GTS, only the Targa variant will satisfy you.
Same engine and choice of gearboxes, but slightly different dynamism between versions.
Now for the technical specifications! All versions are powered by the same 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine, which develops a total of 473 horsepower and a maximum torque of 420 lb-ft. This is 23 horsepower more than the engine of the previous generation GTS and the 992 Carrera S, as well as an increase of 15 lb-ft. At the same time, the weight of this new generation of Porsche 911 GTS is down.
As a result, the new 2022 911 GTS models are sportier, which translates into improved performance, according to Porsche Canada data.
- 2022 911 Carrera GTS
- 0-100 km/h: 4.1 s (manual transmission + Sport Chrono Package) or 3.4 s (PDK + Sport Chrono Package)
- Top speed: 311 km/h
- 2022 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet
- 0-100 km/h: 4.3 s (manual + Sport Chrono Package) or 3.6 s (PDK + Sport Chrono Package)
- Top speed: 309 km/h
- 2022 911 Carrera 4 GTS
- 0-100 km/h: 4.1 s (manual + Sport Chrono Package) or 3.3 s (PDK + Sport Chrono Package)
- Top speed: 309 km/h
- 2022 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet
- 0-100 km/h: 4.3 s (manual + Sport Chrono Package) or 3.5 s (PDK + Sport Chrono Package)
- Top speed: 307 km/h
- 2022 911 Targa 4 GTS
- 0-100 km/h: 4.3 s (manual + Sport Chrono Package) or 3.5 s (PDK + Sport Chrono Package)
- Top speed: 307 km/h
From the data summarised above, it is clear that the coupés have the overall advantage over the cabriolets in terms of acceleration. The reason is simple: weight. In order to compensate for the reduced rigidity due to the absence of a fixed roof, the chassis of the cabriolets are reinforced and made heavier. This is reflected in the tare weight (DIN) of the different versions with the PDK gearbox (911 Carrera GTS: 1,545 kg, 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet: 1,615 kg and 911 Carrera 4 GTS: 1,595 kg).
Paradoxically, however, acceleration is better with the four-wheel drive when the GTS model in question is equipped with it, despite the greater weight (e.g. 2022 911 Carrera GTS: 0-100 km/h in 3.4 s with the PDK and Sport Chrono Package vs. 2022 911 Carrera 4 GTS: 0-100 km/h in 3.3 s when equipped with the PDK and Sport Chrono option). The reason for this is simple: for the same body type, the efficiency of the all-wheel drive compensates for the weight gain associated with the addition of the four-wheel drive system.
So it all depends on what you're looking for:
- If you want maximum sportiness, go for the 2022 Carrera GTS, which offers maximum chassis stiffness without the extra pounds for ultra-precise handling and top-notch acceleration.
- For the best all-round performance, opt for the 2022 Carrera 4 GTS. You'll be a little short in terms of driving dynamics at the limit due to its higher weight. However, the difference is very small!
- For wind-in-the-hair GTS performance, the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet and Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet should be the considered.
- Finally, for all the benefits of all-wheel drive and GTS sportiness both in the open air and in a coupé cockpit with the roof up, opt for the 2022 911 Targa 4 GTS.
Interior: same design for all versions, but very different tops!
And finally, the interior, which is typically Porsche: a classic, uncluttered design, ergonomics designed for performance and driving pleasure, materials of the highest quality, and simply perfect assembly. Quite simply, every 2022 911 GTS comes with a sporty and versatile interior, finished to the highest quality in the industry.
However, practicality will vary from one 2022 GTS to the next because of one thing: the roof! On the coupé models, you'll enjoy a fixed roof that is totally weatherproof and very well soundproofed. The GTS coupés are therefore the models to choose for maximum comfort.
The 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet and Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet are different. With the top down, you'll enjoy tenfold sensations and the musicality of the flat-six cylinder more present in your ears. However, with the roof up, the soundproofing is a little less pronounced. If it's the adrenalin behind the wheel that you're after, then opt for one of the GTS convertibles.
If, on the other hand, you want a compromise between open-air sensations and the ride comfort of a hardtop, your best bet is the 2022 911 Targa 4 GTS. This one will give you almost the same level of sound insulation as the Porsche 911 GTS Type 992 coupés, while still allowing you to enjoy the vocals of the flat-six with the roof down. The best of all worlds!
One thing that won't change is the incredible level of luxury and technology in the cockpit. The 18-way power seats with Memory Package, the interior that can be adorned with leather, Race-Tex, carbon or aluminum, or the Burmester high-end sound system: depending on the model, you'll have everything you need to enjoy all your trips on the South Shore of Montreal!
