The Porsche Cayenne has quickly become very popular in its category, mostly thanks to the outstanding performance it offers. Its newest hybrid version also already has everyone talking in the same positive way!
But what does the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid have in store in terms of electric range? Porsche Rive-Sud, located in Saint-Hubert, tells you more about the hybrid performance it delivers.
The different trim levels of the Cayenne hybrid SUV
The Porsche SUV is available in a wide variety of trim levels, and the hybrid model is no exception. In fact, the German manufacturer offers no less than 6 choices, including two different powertrains.
The E-Hybrid is available in 4 trim levels, including the entry-level SUV as well as:
• The Platinum Edition
• The Coupe
• The Coupe Platinum Edition
The second model option is the one called the Turbo S E-Hybrid, and it also features a Coupe trim. As you can see, you have quite a large selection of versions when it comes to powertrains and exterior styling!
Moreover, these hybrid vehicles stand out visually thanks to acid green accents that you will find on the brake calipers and around the Cayenne emblem, amongst other places. As for the Platinum Edition, it stands out visually with features such as a body color in a gloss finish and 21- inch Spyder rims. It also includes more standard equipment.
Battery specs and characteristics
All Cayenne hybrid SUVs come with the same battery: a 17.9 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor which is coupled with the internal combustion engine.
Powertrain
Although the electric unit is common to all trim levels, two combustion engines are available.
The one found on the E-Hybrid base model is a 3.0-liter V6. When coupled with its electric counterpart, it can deliver a total of 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of maximum torque.
For those of you looking for an even bigger adrenaline rush, the Turbo S trim level relies on a 4.0-liter V8. With this unit, you will be able to count on a total of 670 horsepower and 568 lb-ft. of torque!
Also, both powertrains are all coupled with an 8- speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, with a manual mode. An active all-wheel drive system is also part of the standard equipment, complete with the Porsche Traction Management system.
Performance
Depending on the selected model, you can expect a significant amount of power. Remember: they all bear the iconic Porsche badge! And when it comes to performance, the base model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 5 seconds!
Beyond these exceptional numbers, the driving experience itself at the wheel of this plug-in hybrid vehicle is like no other. It also gives no impression of any added weight, even though it is slightly heavier than its internal combustion engine equivalent in the Cayenne range.
When it comes to the Turbo S trim levels, they deliver even more unmatched accelerations, as it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 295 km/hr!
Since we are referring here to an SUV, towing capacity definitely plays a significant role for many consumers; and they won’t be disappointed! In fact, just to give you an example, the base level hybrid powertrain will allow you to tow up to 7,700 pounds!
Let’s also remember that, given that it is a performance vehicle, you could expect a much less appealing fuel efficiency. Yet, with the hybrid version, you could count on fuel consumption ratings as low as 11.3 L/100 km on average; and by using wisely the electric unit, you could lower that number even further to under 10 L/100 km.
Electric range
As we have previously mentioned, you can choose to drive in hybrid or 100 % electric mode. When in full electric mode, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid will provide you with an electric range that can reach up to 27 km with the base trim level, or up to 24 km with the Turbo S trim.
These numbers may seem modest to you when compared to its rivals, but there are other interesting factors to consider when it comes to the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid and the electric range it offers.
In fact, since it is a plug-in hybrid model it can, of course, be plugged in for charging. However, if you don’t have access to a plug or charging station, or if you do not have the time to stop, you will have another option: you can choose to let the combustion engine fully recharge the battery.
By activating this battery charging option during your drive, you could recover 100 % of the battery charge in as little as an hour or two!
