Inspired by Porsche: Fascinating Movement
“Inspired by Porsche” is a series of reports from Porsche in which artists use different mediums to interpret Porsche DNA. In Part 1, Friedemann Vogel manifests his driving impressions of a Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid through dance.
Friedemann Vogel is a multi-award winning ballet dancer born and raised in Stuttgart, who has been the principal dancer at the internationally renowned Stuttgart Ballet for 20 years. He recently has been awarded the honorary title “Kammertänzer”, the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a dancer in Germany, and can be seen on stages in Moscow, Milan, Shanghai or Vienna.
Care and precision as foundation for top performance
The world is Vogel’s stage and everything in it inspires him in different ways. As a lifelong Stuttgart citizen and a Porsche driver of more than 10 years, Porsche has been a major inspiration for Vogel. “I've always dreamed of owning my own Porsche at some point. For me, as a Stuttgart native, there was actually no other choice.”
Powerful dynamics, but also silent gliding in hybrid mode, beautiful curves, precise movements, the demand for perfection – these are all parallel attributes between Porsche and ballet for Friedemann Vogel. “In my eyes, dance and sports cars have a lot in common. The body of an athlete, for example, has to be fine-tuned very precisely like an engine and chassis.”
Both sports cars and dancers convey emotions, and both are athletes always pushing to perform at their best. Above all for Vogel, however, he says it is the years of care and precision you don’t see on the surface that unites Porsche and ballet. Porsche DNA is steeped in history and each successive generation learns from the designs of the past. It is no surprise that Porsche has been a major sponsor of both the John Cranko Ballet School and the Stuttgart Ballet as they both emphasize technical excellence by using age old traditions to create modern art.
To watch Friedemann Vogel dance is to see the visual representation of the Porsche DNA. Technical skill. Artful heritage. And fascinating movement.
