According to polls, 60% of people choose ‘colour’ as the most important factor when purchasing a vehicle. In today’s market, a favourite colour isn’t necessarily chosen, but rather something more discreet and understated. A few decades ago, red was the most popular color for Porsche, but in 2020, 77% of new cars sold in North America were white, black, silver, or gray.
A Porsche already pulls focus with its compelling design and performance, so there is nothing wrong with selecting a more reserved colour. But for those more adventurous, a whole ‘rainbow’ awaits just beyond your comfort zone.

This viral beauty was customized for a customer and was featured at the AvD Oldtime Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in 2017.
Choosing a colour is often the most difficult task. How can you distill everything you want to say about yourself into one single hue? To help with decision making, the Porsche Club of America launched Rennbow which is a database of historical Porsche paint codes to reference. The database contains more than 500 individual color options and covers almost every single Porsche colour produced since 1950. It also includes more than 1,800 images of various Porsches in the corresponding colors and a one-to-five rarity scale for each colour so you can be sure you’re choosing a colour that will set you apart. It’s clear that the possibilities are endless.
On a molecular level, colours are different combinations of electromagnetic waves that our retinas translate into nerve impulses. These signals are transmitted to the visual cortex of our brain, which gives us the conscious sensation of color. This means that colours exist only in our mind and how colour is perceived is limited only by our imagination.
