In 2022, the City of Saskatoon will start implementing new safety/speed limit changes around school and playground zones.
A zone is an area where kids can walk safely during their journey to and from class or playgroup - so these areas should be safe!
This means that residents will notice increased enforcement for traffic laws within this space including speed limit restrictions in effect year-round, seven days a week, from 7am - 7pm - and including the newly installed 'playground zones" with the same schedule.
In 2021, school zone speed limits around elementary schools took effect from September-June, Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm.
The City of Saskatoon has made a decision that will remove high schools from their zone and replace them with "school areas." This means there is no longer any reduction in speed limits.
U-turns are also prohibited throughout these regions which pose an increased safety risk due to young people being present.
