Porsche introduced a brand new version of its popular Macan compact luxury SUV late last year, and it recently became available to test drive and take home from Porsche Centre Vancouver in base and S trims with 248 or 348 horsepower respectively. Additionally, a new 440-horsepower 2020 Macan Turbo was introduced in October, which will arrive in our Terminal Avenue showroom soon.
If you follow all things Porsche, you’ll have also been waiting for the official announcement of the second-generation Macan GTS, once again designed to fill the gap between the S and top-line Turbo, albeit with even more sport-oriented flair than its siblings, and now Porsche has more than fulfilled expectations with a completely updated version boasting 15 additional horsepower and a 5 km/h faster top speed of 261 km/h.
Behind the revised grille is a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 good for 375 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, connected to Porsche’s seven-speed automated dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Standstill to 100 km/h takes only 4.9 seconds, or 4.7 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package, which is a considerable 0.3 seconds quicker than the previous Macan GTS. A standard sport exhaust system makes the Macan GTS sound as good as it drives.
Like that original GTS, the new version gets lowered by 15 millimetres to aid handling, while its standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping control system is specially tuned for better performance all-round. GTS buyers can further improve high-speed control with an available adaptive air suspension that lowers the Macan by another 10 mm.
Red brake calipers clamp down on standard 360 by 36 mm front and 330 by 22 mm rear cast iron discs, but stopping power can be increased via a Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) upgrade featuring a tungsten carbide coating, or you can choose the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) option for the strongest braking power possible.
Over and above styling changes made from the first- to second-generation Macan, which are extensive and include standard LED headlights and Porsche’s new trademark LED light bar-infused three-dimensional tail lamps, the new GTS gets darkened lenses at both ends, plus adds a Sport Design exterior package featuring a modified front fascia with a new grille insert, revised corner grilles, and a totally new front apron, along with unique body-paint coloured rocker extensions below wide matte-grey/black side door trim embossed with “GTS” script.
Yet more body-colour paint gets splashed onto the lower rear bumper, while other high-gloss black accents are included with the Macan GTS from front to back, all before finishing everything off with satin-gloss black-painted 20-inch RS Spyder Design alloy wheels that frame the standard red-painted brake calipers mentioned earlier.
Inside, the sporty red theme continues onto the primary instrument cluster’s centre-mounted tachometer dial for a wholly distinctive look, while Carmine Red or Chalk stitching is optional throughout the cabin, highlighting the dash and door panels, plus the GTS-exclusive leather and suede-like Alcantara upholstered eight-way adjustable sport seats, all four of which get embroidered GTS logos on their headrests.
Yet more Alcantara covers the door panel inserts plus the side and centre armrests, not to mention the roof pillars and roofliner, while beautiful brushed aluminum trim brightens up key areas around the cabin, particularly the exquisitely formed sport steering wheel.
Starting from $77,100, the 2021 Macan GTS is now available to order from Porsche Centre Vancouver, with deliveries expected this coming summer.
