Having only just revealed the new 2021 911 Turbo S Coupe and Cabriolet in March, Porsche is now sharing some details about next year’s 911 Carrera models.
Joining the paddle-shift actuated eight-speed dual-clutch automated PDK transmission for 2021 is seven-speed manual gearbox for 911 Carrera S and 4S models, but take note we won’t have pricing on the 2021 model for a few months, so we can’t be sure whether the seven-speed will be added to the 911 Carrera S and 4S as a new base trim or if it will be a no-cost option as is currently being offered in Europe.
For 2021, Porsche will offer InnoDrive adaptive cruise control on PDK-equipped 911s, which in addition to matching its following speed to the vehicle ahead, will also automatically maintain set speed limits and slow down appropriately when approaching corners.
Also new is a tire temperature readout gauge for the Sport Chrono Package, while in addition an available front axle-lift feature dubbed Smartlift raises the 911’s nose to clear oversized speed bumps and steep inclines, such as driveways. Even better, the intelligent part of the Smartlift name refers to a memory function that can store a given location and remember to lift the 911’s nose automatically the next time you arrive.
Some key features pulled down from the new Turbo S to 2021 911 Carrera coupe models include two window glass options. Those wanting to optimize performance can choose a lightweight glass package, while buyers looking to reduce NVH levels and enhance comfort can choose one with more noise insulation.
Alternatively, the new 911 will be available with a retrospective leather upholstery upgrade package that makes its cabin look similar to a 930-generation 911 Turbo. The interior comes standard with the Turbo S and is available with both Coupe and Cabriolet body styles.
To add clarity when ordering, Porsche will change its seven-colour Light Design Package name to Ambient Lighting Package, while speaking of colours new Python Green exterior paint will be on the Carrera’s palette for 2021, this hue previously seen on the 911 Turbo S and the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.
