For over 75 years, Porsche has evoked passion from automotive enthusiasts the world over. No matter the era and as modern cars become classics, Porsche models have captured countless hearts, imaginations, and desires. The Porsche Classic Restoration Competition perfectly embodies this passion as it sees several Canadian Porsche Centre dealerships showcase their expertise and care in restoring a classic Porsche of their choice. As one of the few and exclusive Porsche Classic Partners in Canada, Porsche Centre Victoria is excited to partake in the 2022-2023 iteration of the competition with the revitalizing of a captivating 930-generation 1981 911 Turbo Coupe.
The Platinum Metallic over beige and brown 911 was originally purchased new by Mike Reno, the lead singer of Canadian rock band Loverboy. Though the car was stewarded by a few different owners since, it has spent its entire life on the Canadian west coast ultimately landing on Vancouver Island in autumn 2021. Arriving in our shop with nearly 147,000 km and wearing 964-generation bodywork, there were several areas with slight paint damage. The engine also showed signs of oil leaks in various spots, and it was discovered during disassembly that some of the engine's head studs were broken and numerous aftermarket wiring repairs had been performed in the past.
Upon consultation with the current owner, it was decided that the 911 would return to its original condition as best possible, particularly with its drivetrain. No stranger to all-encompassing work on air-cooled 911 models, our Shop Forman Chris Brandon and the team were ready and eager for the thorough restoration project.
