Porsche is setting bold new benchmarks in electric mobility with its upcoming all-electric Cayenne, currently undergoing final testing. Blending everyday practicality with high-performance capability, the SUV recently turned heads at the historic Shelsley Walsh hill climb in England and left with a record.
Driven by TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E development driver Gabriela Jílková, the camouflaged prototype smashed the previous SUV record by over four seconds, clocking a time of 31.28 seconds. Impressively, it cleared the first 60 feet of the climb in just 1.94 seconds — a feat previously achieved only by purpose-built single-seater race cars on slick tyres.
At the heart of this performance is Porsche Active Ride, a next-generation suspension system that keeps the vehicle level under braking, acceleration, and cornering. “The new Cayenne delivers enormous stability and precision,” said Jílková. “I felt completely confident at all times.”
Porsche also showcased the Cayenne Electric’s towing muscle. British TV presenter Richard Hammond put the SUV to the test by towing a two-tonne vintage car, and trailer, effortlessly across the English countryside. Porsche claims the vehicle is engineered to handle up to 3.5 tonnes, matching its combustion-engine siblings.
