The Porsche GT lineup gains an especially engaging new model with the arrival of the 911 GT3 S/C, the first GT3 ever offered with a fully automatic convertible roof. It blends the lightweight engineering of the 911 S/T with the naturally aspirated 4.0 litre flat six from the GT3, producing 375 kW (510 PS), 450 Nm of torque and a 9,000 rpm redline. Porsche positions it as a pure driver’s car, offered exclusively with a short ratio six speed manual transmission and configured as a two seater, echoing the spirit of the 2019 Speedster but without being a limited run model.
Despite the powered roof, the GT3 S/C weighs only 1,497 kg, roughly 30 kg more than the 991 Speedster. This is achieved through extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fibre body panels, carbon fibre anti roll bars and shear plate, magnesium centre lock wheels, a compact lithium ion battery and magnesium components within the roof structure. The soft top opens or closes in about twelve seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h, and its magnesium ribs allow it to maintain a coupé like silhouette when raised. An electric wind deflector, operable at up to 120 km/h, enhances comfort during open top driving.
The interior follows the same lightweight philosophy, featuring simplified door panels with carbon pull straps, lightweight carpets and standard Sports Seats Plus. Optional carbon bucket seats with folding backrests are available. Black leather upholstery is standard, and the cabin includes details such as perforated leather on the steering wheel, a rotary ignition switch and a Track Screen mode that reduces the digital display to essential performance information.
The 4.0 litre engine has been updated with revised cylinder heads, GT3 RS spec camshafts, individual throttle bodies and improved oil cooling. Even with particulate filters and four catalytic converters, the car delivers a more intense sound experience when driven with the roof down. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reaches 313 km/h. The chassis setup mirrors that of the 911 GT3 Touring, and for the first time an open top 911 uses the double wishbone front axle. High grip tyres 255/35 ZR20 at the front and 315/30 ZR21 at the rear are fitted as standard.
Visually, the GT3 S/C stands out with its black windscreen surround, enlarged front air intake enabled by matrix LED headlights, and a retractable rear spoiler fitted with a Gurney flap. The front lip and rear diffuser come directly from the GT3.
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur offers a Street Style Package for customers seeking a more distinctive look. It adds Pyro Red exterior graphics, tinted HD Matrix headlights, body coloured airblades and a dramatically reworked interior featuring two tone leather, four tone braided leather seat centres, extensive leather trim and a darkened gear lever topped with an open pore wooden knob. Matching accessories are available, including a lightweight 10 kg rear storage box with 80 litres of capacity, which can be customised to suit the chosen interior. Owners can also purchase a dedicated Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 S/C. It features a titanium case, a COSC certified flyback movement, a dial inspired by the car’s instruments and a rotor modelled after the magnesium wheels. The colour ring and leather strap can be matched to the customer’s vehicle configuration.
