Porsche has successfully navigated the first half of 2024, delivering a total of 155,945 vehicles worldwide between January and June. Despite a moderate decrease of 7% compared to the same period last year, Porsche has demonstrated resilience in a year marked by significant product launches and model updates across its range, including the Cayenne, Panamera, Macan, Taycan, and 911.
Stability Amidst Transitions
The first half of 2024 has been a period of transition for Porsche, with complex updates and model changes temporarily affecting availability in certain markets. Nevertheless, the brand's robust performance across its key regions has been a testament to its well-balanced global sales structure.
"With the most powerful model range in the company's history, we are sending out a clear signal. Our customers can rely on us. Even in a globally challenging market environment, we deliver inspiring sports cars with unique performance, many innovations, and a high degree of individualisation," said Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG.
Regional Performance Highlights
Porsche achieved notable growth in Europe, excluding Germany, with 38,611 vehicles delivered, marking a 6% increase compared to the previous year. In its home market of Germany, Porsche saw a significant 22% rise in deliveries, with 20,811 units handed over to customers.
In North America, despite a 6% decrease, Porsche delivered 39,558 vehicles, bouncing back from customs-related delays earlier in the year to record its strongest quarterly performance. Meanwhile, in China, the ongoing economic challenges and Porsche’s focus on value-oriented sales led to a 33% decrease, with 29,551 vehicles delivered. The overseas and emerging markets remained stable, with 27,414 vehicles delivered, mirroring last year’s figures.
Strong Demand for Electric Vehicles
The Porsche Cayenne led the charge in the first half of 2024, with 54,587 units delivered, reflecting a 16% increase. The Porsche Macan, despite an 18% decrease in deliveries due to model changeovers in various markets, maintained strong demand. The new all-electric Macan generation has received a positive order intake, with the first deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
The iconic Porsche 911 continued to resonate with customers, achieving 28,212 deliveries worldwide, an 8% increase. The Panamera, currently undergoing a model change, saw a 25% decrease with 13,255 units delivered. Similarly, the Taycan, also affected by the model update, recorded 8,838 deliveries, down 51%. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models, however, saw growth, with 11,886 units delivered, an 8% increase.
Outlook for 2024 and Beyond
Porsche remains committed to offering a diverse range of vehicles to meet varying customer preferences. "In 2024, we will put the most powerful Porsche product portfolio of all time on the road," said Detlev von Platen. "We will continue to focus on a triad of drive systems: fully electric vehicles, efficient plug-in hybrids, and emotional combustion engines. With this triad, we believe we are well-positioned for the future and have an attractive offering for all customers, regardless of preferences and developments in individual regions of the world."
