Porsche to Launch Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles

Wireless charging, long familiar to smartphone users, is about to make its way into Porsche’s electric lineup. They announced plans to introduce an 11 kW wireless charging system that eliminates the need for a wallbox or control unit. Instead, a single floor-mounted base plate will handle the process.

The next-generation all-electric Cayenne, set to debut at the end of 2025, will be the first Porsche model equipped with this option. Customers will be able to order the vehicle-side equipment directly, while sales of the charging plates will begin in 2026 through Porsche Centres and the Porsche Shop.

At the IAA Mobility show in Munich, Porsche is showcasing the system with a prototype floor plate highlighted in fluorescent paint. Once a Cayenne is positioned over the plate and the parking brake engaged, charging begins automatically—no cables or extra steps required.

The technology is integrated into the My Porsche app, enabling drivers to track charging, manage multiple vehicles, and schedule timer-based charging with preconditioning. The system also links with the Surround View parking function, offering a dedicated display to help guide the car into the optimal spot for charging.
