Since its launch in 2020, the all-electric Porsche sportscar has won many awards and plenty of admirers with its combination of innovative technology, standout design and dynamic performance.
“Taycan” follows the latter’s portmanteau construction, but springs from a rather less prosaic source. ‘Tay’ is Turkish for ‘colt’, or ‘spirited young horse’ (a horse is prominent on the crest of both Stuttgart and Porsche), while ‘can’ is the Turkish for ‘life’ or ‘soul’. So Taycan means ‘soul of a spirited young horse’ – an apt summary of the lively, unique nature of the car itself.
