The Taycan Is the biggest surprise. Being the starting point in the range, it has the least amount of power, but this is Porsche, and Porsche make sports cars.
It has a single motor out back, powering the rear wheels via a 2 speed gearbox. This allows it to achieve the furthest range, yet still offer that instant performance, and the performance is just that. It compares most similar to a GT car with a naturally aspirated engine. What you demand from the car via your right foot, is what the motor gives you, and its enough. Plenty of acceleration, not more than you need, but enough to feel quick.
Being driven only by the rear wheels changes the character of the car altogether. When driven spiritedly it adds a liveliness to the chassis, and demands respect. The Taycan really comes alive in this format. It feels more of a 911 that’s been plunged into a bucket of energy drink than that of a computer given wheels. The dynamic balance is supered with the chassis offering subline ride quality. The battery being sat in the floor plan of the car keeps the centre of gravity low, but equally stops the car being upset by undulations in the road.
This is a generation 2 car, so the engineers have had time to refine the formula. This opened my eyes to the scope that an EV can offer. Its not just about getting from A to B in electric luxury, but it’s about enjoying that Porsche driving experience when the time is right, and you command it.
As someone who lives and breathes Porsche, I’m often asked which features truly make a difference in daily life—and the all-electric Macan delivers like never before.
One standout? The Augmented Reality Head-Up Display. It projects key info directly into your line of sight, reducing distractions and boosting confidence. Ambient Lighting also gets smarter, changing colour to reflect charging status or safety alerts. Need practicality? The Electrically Extending Tow Bar with Trailer Manoeuvring Assist makes towing up to 2,000kg effortless. And every Macan comes with a 10-year Porsche Connect package, letting you control cabin climate, charging routes, and more via the My Porsche app.
On longer journeys, comfort and connectivity shine. Front Massage & Ventilated Seats are a game-changer, while rear passengers enjoy Heated Seats and extra legroom thanks to the flat floor. Porsche InnoDrive refines Adaptive Cruise Control, assisting with acceleration and cornering. Tech extends to the passenger, too—with a 10.9" Display and integrated App Store bringing Spotify, Netflix, and games right to the dash.
But make no mistake—this is still a Porsche at heart. A drag coefficient of just 0.25 makes it one of the most aerodynamic SUVs out there. Sport Plus mode sharpens the chassis, while Adaptive Air Suspension and Rear-Axle Steering deliver agility and comfort in equal measure. Charging is quick and clever—10–80% in 21 minutes with 800-volt tech, or fast top-ups via Bank Charging at 400V.
For me, it’s the ultimate balance of performance, innovation, and everyday usability.
